The TQUK Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a recognised qualification designed to prepare aspiring educators for a dynamic teaching career. Regulated by Ofqual, this diploma equips trainee teachers, trainers, and tutors with the essential skills and knowledge to excel in various educational contexts. The course strongly emphasises practical teaching techniques, necessitating observation and assessment of teaching practice. Tailored to individual aspirations, learners can engage in curriculum planning, effective delivery of learning sessions, strategy development, and assessment practices. The qualification is suitable for individuals practising within the education sector, who have prior knowledge and understanding of the role and wish to merge that experience with an accredited qualification. The Level 5 Diploma opens pathways to a range of teaching opportunities, while its inclusion on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) ensures industry recognition and the potential for further educational pursuits.
Candidates interested in enrolling in the qualification should hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification. The entry requirements are essential for both successfully completing the course and pursuing job opportunities:

Assessment: The qualification is assessed through a portfolio of evidence, encompassing theoretical and practical knowledge, including written essays and teaching or training observation.
Teaching Practice Requirement: To achieve the qualification, a minimum of 100 hours of practical teaching experience is mandatory, along with evidence of working with groups of learners.
Observed and Assessed Practice: Trainee teachers must complete a minimum of eight observations, totalling at least 8 hours, during the programme. These observations should be spaced out to monitor the progress of the trainee teacher. Previously observed practice completed as part of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training is not counted toward this requirement.
Transfer of Practice: There is no allowance for the transfer of practice from a previously obtained Level 3 Award in Education and Training. However, trainee teachers who hold the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training can transfer 20 hours of practice and 2 hours of observed and assessed practice towards meeting the requirements of the Level 5 Diploma.
Successful learners can advance their careers by obtaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, equivalent to QTS in England, enabling them to work as qualified teachers in state schools. With QTLS, learners gain recognition equal to QTS holders in schools, and they can further specialise by pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) after using the DET qualification as a strong foundation. This progression opens doors to fulfilling teaching roles and continued growth in education.
With QTLS in hand, learners can take their educational journey a step further by considering a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). This additional qualification builds upon the solid foundation provided by the DET and allows for specialization in specific areas of teaching and education. A PGCE can open doors to a wide range of fulfilling teaching roles and can lead to career growth and development in the field of education.
The journey from completing the TQUK Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) to attaining QTLS and, if desired, pursuing a PGCE, provides educators with a rich array of prospects for advancing in their careers and leaving a significant imprint on the education landscape.
