Overview

The ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Business and Management is the second year of the degree programme. The qualification is equivalent to the second year of a bachelor’s degree qualification in the UK university system.

This qualification enables learners to develop advanced knowledge and skills in strategic management, finance, people leadership, and business research. It prepares learners for senior managerial roles or progression to the final year of an undergraduate degree.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto this qualification, students must have at least one of the following:

ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Business and Management or equivalent qualification
Other equivalent international qualifications
Relevant work experience (considered via Recognition of Prior Learning)

Qualification Structure

Students must study the following mandatory units:

Business Organisations in a Global Context (15 credits)

Analyse global business environments and external factors affecting organisations, understand international trade dynamics, and evaluate the impact of globalisation on business operations.

Research Project (15 credits)

Design and undertake independent business research projects, apply research methodologies, and present findings effectively to support business decision-making.

People Management (15 credits)

Apply advanced people management and leadership strategies, understand organisational behaviour, and develop techniques for managing and motivating teams.

Finance for Managers (15 credits)

Interpret financial information to support managerial decision-making, understand financial statements, and apply financial analysis techniques.

Marketing Principles and Practice (15 credits)

Understand advanced marketing principles, develop marketing strategies, and evaluate market conditions to achieve business objectives.

Managing Communications (15 credits)

Develop effective communication strategies for business environments, manage internal and external communications, and apply communication theories to organisational contexts.

Organisational Analysis and Change (15 credits)

Analyse organisational structures and cultures, understand change management theories, and develop strategies for implementing organisational change.

Operations Management (15 credits)

Apply operations management principles to improve business efficiency, understand quality management systems, and manage resources effectively in an operational context.

What's Next

On successful completion of the qualification, students may progress onto the final year of a Bachelor’s Degree (Top-Up), transfer to a university or pursue a career in business.
