The ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Computing is the second year of the degree programme. The qualification is equivalent to the second year of a Computing degree qualification in the UK university system.
This qualification builds on the foundational knowledge gained at Level 4 and offers learners advanced knowledge and practical skills across key areas of computing. It covers digital transformation, professional development, innovative technologies, information systems, advanced database practice, data analytics, machine learning, and advanced programming, preparing learners for further study or senior roles in the technology sector.
For entry onto this qualification, students must have at least one of the following:
Understand the principles of digital transformation, plan and manage computing projects, and apply project management methodologies to drive organisational change through technology.
Develop professional skills for the computing industry, enhance business communication abilities, and understand the importance of continuous professional development.
Explore emerging technologies and connected devices, understand Internet of Things (IoT) concepts, and evaluate the impact of innovative technologies on business and society.
Understand the role of information systems in organisations, analyse information system requirements, and evaluate the effectiveness of different information system solutions.
Plan and execute an advanced computing project, apply project management techniques, and demonstrate the ability to deliver a complex project within constraints.
Develop advanced database design and implementation skills, understand data warehousing concepts, and apply advanced SQL and database management techniques.
Apply data analytics techniques, understand machine learning algorithms, and use analytical tools to extract insights from large datasets.
Develop advanced programming skills, understand complex programming concepts, apply object-oriented programming principles, and create sophisticated software solutions.
On successful completion of the qualification, students may progress onto the final year of a Bachelor’s Degree (Top-Up), transfer to a university or pursue a career in computing.
